| Operating Systems Supported for Online Backup Storage Posted: 23 Jul 2012 03:46 PM PDT
The average user will undoubtedly have an Apple or Windows-based computer so this shouldn't be a problem for the most part. However, some businesses do run a Linux based file system and not all backup and file storage providers are capable of handling Linux files. This isn't altogether bad news because those who do operate Linux operating systems are usually techies who understand the file system and would think to see if the service can handle Linux. Most of us aren't aware that there is a difference between file extensions and how operating systems 'read' the information contained in files, so it is vital to make sure you don't land on the one-in-one-million providers that only host Linux! However, one piece of advice is that you at least find a provider that has both Mac and Windows capability because you may have a Toshiba today with Win 7 or 8, but tomorrow may decide on a new Apple that uses the Mac operating system. By so doing, your files will be safe and can easily be transferred from computer to computer with a bit of help in converting the files. |
