Nicola and I went on our "date night" yesterday evening.
A meal and movie was a great way to relax at the end of
a hectic week.
In case you're wondering, I went for the veal...
Which is about as crazy as I get when it comes to eating
out.
Unsurprisingly, I'm nowhere near adventurous to try any
of these "delicacies" from around the world.
Warning: You may want to put down your bacon sandwich
before reading any further!
Boodog (Mongolia) - Goat broiled inside a bag made from
cut and tied goatskin. Barbecued or cooked with a
blowtorch.
Cena Molida (Belize) - Sounds tasy but includes roasted
mashed cockroaches.
Dessicated Petrified Deer Penis (China) - I'd be
petrified too...
Durian Fruit (Southeast Asia) - One of your "five a day"
fruit and veg has a fragrance identical to that of a
rotting corpse.
Guinea Pig (Ecuador) - A cute pet in the UK, South
American children enjoy theirs fried, roasted or boiled.
Horsemeat (Netherlands) - Salted and eaten in a sandwich
for a tasty lunchtime treat.
Larks Tongues (England) - Fortunately consigned to the
sixteenth century.
Monkey Toes (Indonesia) - Well, eating their fingers
would be just silly, wouldn't it?
Sausages (Phillipines) - What's wrong with that? These
are made from rat meat.
Finally, a particularly grim dish of Khachapuri from the
former Soviet republic of Georgia.
It's a traditional cheese pie which doesn't sound too
bad until you learn why the authorities shut down one
bakery in 1995...
It emerged the pies were baked in the capital city's
morgue!
