| My childhood summer vacations had all the halcyon details of the movies, but my mom also made sure that my sisters and I kept our minds sharp. We had to participate in summer reading contests in the library, take art classes, and play educational computer games that reinforced our math and typing skills. I hated her for it at the time, of course, but in retrospect I see my mom's pursuit of the best for us as the ultimate sign that she cared. And some of those books and classes stuck with me far longer than another aimless day at the neighborhood pool. -Anna Roth. >> What's on your summer program? Tell us on Facebook! |
