Posted: 26 Jun 2012 01:35 AM PDT

google pandaGoogle Panda was first released in February 2011 although the effect went global in April, the same year. It is a change to the search results ranking algorithm of Google. The aim of Google Panda is to lower the rank of low quality sites and return higher quality sites near the top of search results. The ultimate goal of Google Panda is to improve search engine results. However, its effects have left webmasters knotty as to how to recover from Google Panda roll out.

Effects of Google Panda

As soon as the Panda roll-out was implemented, CNET, a tech media website that publishes articles, blogs, news and podcast on technology and consumer electronics reported that many websites that were bombarded with complaints of scrapers/copyright infringes before are actually getting better rankings that the websites that contain original and quality content. Sites like Google's webmaster forum were not spared with complaints regarding this matter. What is the truth behind this issue?
First and foremost, the sites that are affected mostly with Google Panda updates are E- commerce sites with low quality products pages. Websites that have been designed as primarily to advertise by using paid promotion and sites that have been designed to host low quality or duplicate content articles are also targeted. The sites that talks about price comparisons of products and others service with few or poor content are also diced. Travel tourism sites that contain duplicate or poor reviews are also not spared as well as websites with low usability and low branding.

Facts about Google Panda

• It is believed that Panda takes the behavior of customers into consideration
• Panda appears to affect the ranking from the entire website rather than individual pages
• Updates to Panda are periodical and isn’t in continuous development

What is Google Panda’s Target?

To put it simply, Panda’s aim is to, reduce spam by websites, reduce content / link farms and reduce low quality content. This means that when a user performs a search on Google, the probability of them landing on a website that is not relevant to what they wanted should be reduced. We have all searched for something, only to get to pages filled with links and upon clicking on a link, you get more links and adverts everywhere, but never get to what you were looking for. This new process also makes it very difficult for unethical SEO companies to use Black Hat Marketing strategies.

Things to do to Keep Up with Google Panda

Google asked for data points to detect scrapers better. Google Panda has received several updates since its roll-out in February 2011. To ease up the gush of webmasters, Google has given some direction for self evaluation to scrutinize a website's quality.
In order to be successful in Search Engines and perform well in organic searches, you website needs to be updated often with information that is relevant to what you offer. You should also limit the ads on your website and replace it with more valuable information for users to read.
