| My Journey In Studing The Bible – Part 1 Posted: 02 Jul 2012 11:06 PM PDT Some of you may have noticed that recently I had a shift of focus in my life more toward my new found love of Christ. If you like to know why that sudden interest and change you may click to find out more. My studies started on the 25th June and it will end on this Satuday on 7th July which is only 2 weeks Before The Class Started I had many Christian friend told me it wont be easy as there is lots of assignment and books to read. I would say it was manageable and was not too bad through out the course so far. The teacher who taught us was quite fun and I felt I was in a family in the class and school as all of us was willing to help one another and learn at the same time. I was studying Bible Interpretation as my 1st module at the bible school and I would say it was the most interesting thing I ever learn in my life as a Christian Why Biblical Interpretation Is Important If you are a Christian , it is important that what you read in the bible is been read in the right meaning and context. That’s where BI helps to give the reader a better understand of the words in the bible. Every verse that you find in the bible are truth valuable teachings that all Christians are encourage to follow, however when a reader read some words out of context it can give a whole different meaning. For example the verse
What does this verse really mean in the bible? What is this cross that Mathew was talking about? Does it really meant that you have to physically carry a cross around and follow Jesus? Well if you study your BI right, you will realized the cross and verse in this case is referring more about oneself to prepare to sacrifice own rights. In lay man terms it just means be willing to deny yourself and be faithful In BI it consist of three components which are - Exegesis It is kind of sad that in today’s world there are some churches which only uses one of the 3 approaches above and not integrate all three in their approach to preach the gospel message. Therefore, the importance of BI is really important here to apply all 3 approaches to get a clearer understanding of the verses in the bible. We were also taught on the different approaches to the meaning of the words in various ways such us: - Author – centered ( world behind the text) When I knew this concept, it totally change the way that I read the bible today as I read the words now from an integrated approach to the meaning of the words in the bible. So if you are reading the bible in the future, it would be useful to ask yourself these questions to have a better understanding of the verses. - Who wrote this book of these verse? These are just some of few questions you can use that can help but there’s much more that can explore in each verse using BI. At most times what we think the words are in our point of view may not be necessary be the actual meaning the author was trying to convert to the reader so be very careful how you read the bible in the future.. haha Because of this knowledge that I now know, it does gives me some surprises on some passages that I have read in the bible in the past If you notice pastor always encourage Christians to keep reading the words again and again. The reason behind that is when someone reads the word again and again, you will discover different meanings every time you read the verses – known as hermeneutic spiral. There’s much more I like to share on what I have learn but it will be on the next blog entry Recommended Books By The School That I Reading This is good big that gives you a summary of the real meaning behind every chapter This book is really good and easy to read dummies guide to BI |
