| Microsoft Partners With Barnes & Noble Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:15 AM PDT Both Microsoft and Barnes & Noble announced a strategic partnerships in a new subsidiary of Barnes & Noble called Newco. If you own a Nook, Barnes & Noble’s e-reader, or an e-reader in general, then this partnership may interest you. This partnership is looking to accelerate the transition from print media to e-readers, especially for Windows users.
With regards to the new partnership, Microsoft will acquire a 17.6% equity stake in Newco for $300 million. Barnes & Noble will maintain the remaining 82.4% stake in Newco. The name Newco has officially been decided upon by Barnes & Noble. With the new subsidiary, Barnes & Noble will combine both the digital and College businesses into one company. This will allow Barnes & Noble to possibly provide the NOOK study – software that provides students and educations with a platform for distribution and management of education materials – outside of an individual e-reader. Microsoft’s investment in Newco will open a whole new market for Barnes & Noble NOOK business. The partnership will possibly bring NOOK software to Windows 8, and perhaps previous version of the Windows operating system. With such a large Windows audience at it’s disposal, Newco can quickly expand it’s software and services to a very large audience. I’m not sure how this partnership will affect other e-readers, such as the Amazon Kindle, and e-reader digital content. It will be interesting to see how NOOK will be integrated with Windows 8, and how well it will be used. Internet Explorer is a popular Web browser because of the integration with the Windows operating systems, even though there are better alternatives available. I wonder if Barnes & Noble are hoping for the same type of result – just with a better product. Related Posts

| NVIDIA Announces the GeForce GTX 690 Posted: 30 Apr 2012 07:00 AM PDT Another page was added to the book regarding the battle for computer graphics supremacy a few days ago with the unveiling of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 690. While this graphics card is probably out of the price range for most people, for those that are serious about creating gaming rigs, this card will probably cause a lot of excitement.
Real PowerThe GeForce GTX 690 is powered by 3,072 NVIDIA CUDA cores, which puts out awesome visuals and framerates for those that are looking to build the ultimate gaming rigs. How much power? According the NVIDIA’s testing the GeForce GTX 690 can deliver close to double the number of frames compares to the closest single GPU graphics card – the GeForce GTX 680. To attain such performance, the GeForce GTX 690 is powered by dual Kepler architecture-based GeForce GPUs. The testing performed for NVIDIA’s announcement was performed at a resolution of 2500×1600 with version 301.10 of the drivers. The summary of the tests comparing the GTX 690 with the GTX 680 were as follows:
With as much improvement with one card, I am wondering how two cards in a SLI configuration will perform, and whether there is a desktop computer that can keep up with two cards. The GTX 690 will allow gamers to easily display high-resolution games on multiple screens at the highest possible quality with any game that is available on the market. Not only will the games look good, but new look will also provide some eye-candy to what is installed on their systems. The GeForce GTX 690 also sports a new look. The exterior frame of the graphics card is made from trivalent chromium-plated aluminum, which gives the card a nice sleek look. Availability and PricingThe GeForce GTX 690 will be available starting May 3, 2012 in limited quantities and on May 7, 2012 with a wider availability with NVIDIA’s partners. The partners include ASUS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Inno3D, MSI, Palit and Zotac. For those with deep-pockets, the MSRP for the GeForce GTX 690 is $999 USD. Related Posts

| Defensive Design Cost-Benefit Analysis of Web Design Posted: 30 Apr 2012 05:00 AM PDT Web design is no easy task. When someone says web design, they're not just referring to one simple task. Web design means completing a multitude of tasks that, when finished, come together to hopefully equal a fantastic website that can perform more than just one trick well. Users, after all, always look for fun websites that actually bring something to the table, rather than just sitting on the web doing nothing. Our Web Designers are sure to provide your small business with tons of fun!
Web design is not a menial job, but artistic expression. When done well, web design can be comparable to the effort and time put into painting a fine portrait, or constructing a large building. Not just anyone can do web design, and certainly not well – but rest assured that our web design company is ready to perform well for your small business. It also certainly takes a certain amount of finesse to perform web design that is specifically catered to each client's unique needs. Sure, web design can become cookie-cutter and run-of-the-mill. But the true trick – which our web design has down pat – is in fully customizing web design so that the client is completely happy with the end product, and in maintaining the proper balance between fun and sophistication. Part of the biggest challenge is also in ensuring that the web design is performed so that the final product is easy to read and easy to navigate. People don't want to visit a website where it's difficult to find information and links – they want to visit a website that lays everything out simply and dynamically, and guarantees this for your small business. Part of the key in ensuring that you achieve easy navigation is in making sure that the various web pages are uniform to some extent, hinting at a specific style that binds everything together rather than creating pages willy-nilly that don't flow together properly. There's nothing that puts off web browsers more than pages that don't make sense in a greater context. An important strategy is to make sure that there is a link on every webpage leading back to the homepage, and to clearly label pages so that the user understands where each page fits into a larger context. And of course, don't forget to include a search bar! You make users happy when you make it easy for them to find the information they want in a quick amount of time, not by burying information. Then there are all the little details to think of when it comes to web design. For instance, perhaps you should think about including a comment box, in order to encourage feedback and show users that you're listening to them at all time and value their opinions. Even better is placing your contact information somewhere visible on the website, so that users know just where to go when they want to get in contact with you. And of course, make sure that your website is compatible with more than just one web browser. There's nothing worse than a website that won't load properly on a certain browser – it puts people off forever. Web design is no simple task, but it can certainly be fun and rewarding. Just keep these few important pointers in mind, call our web designers today, and your small business is on its way to web design success!
